An Asteroid Headed Our Way

Humans live in a vast solar system where 2,000 feet seems a razor-thin distance. Yet it's just wide enough to trigger concerns that an asteroid due to buzz Earth on April 13, 2029 may shift its orbit enough to return and strike the planet seven years later.

What a poseur. That asteroid totally watched Armageddon and thought, "Dude, I could do that." It's like when a kid watches Spiderman and then spend the rest of the evening leaping against walls and making spiderweb sounds. Sscchp!

I also like that they named the asteroid Apophis, like the Goa'uld who was humanity's greatest threat in the first few seasons of Stargate SG-1, before finally being defeated in season 5 when we crashed his mothership into a planet. Wait, maybe that's not the allusion we want to make.
